Getting Started with GeoContextAI: Set Up AI Brand Monitoring in 15 Minutes
Lorena Ly
Founder
Most brands have no idea what AI platforms are telling buyers about them. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews — they're all recommending products right now, and you're either in the answer or you're not.
GeoContextAI lets you monitor exactly what AI says about your brand, diagnose why you're winning or losing, and fix it. This tutorial walks through the entire onboarding — from sign-up to your first AI visibility report.
We also recorded this as a video tutorial if you prefer to watch:
What is GeoContextAI?
GeoContextAI is a Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) platform. It does three things:
- Monitor — Queries AI platforms with the same prompts your buyers use, then tracks whether you're mentioned, how you're positioned, and what competitors appear instead
- Diagnose — Traces AI citations back to their sources, identifies what evidence AI has (and doesn't have) about your brand
- Fix — Generates targeted content to fill evidence gaps so AI starts recommending you
Think of it as Google Search Console, but for AI search.
Before You Start
You'll need:
- A website URL for your brand
- 2 minutes to sign up
- ~10 minutes to review your AI-generated market profile
That's it. GeoContextAI auto-discovers everything else — your brand details, competitors, and the buyer search prompts that matter for your category.
Step 1: Sign Up and Enter Your URL
Head to geocontextai.com and create a free account. You'll land directly in the onboarding wizard.
The first step asks for just two things:
- Your company name
- Your website URL
Hit "Discover my brand" and GeoContextAI scans your website to extract your brand information automatically.
What Happens Behind the Scenes
When you enter your URL, GeoContextAI:
- Fetches your website using multiple methods (standard crawler, browser-style request, and AI-reader fallback) to get past common bot protections
- Checks your robots.txt for AI crawler blocks — if platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity are blocked, you'll see a warning banner explaining the impact on your visibility
- Extracts brand details using AI: your company description, product categories, key features, and brand aliases
You'll see all the discovered information on-screen. Review it, edit anything that's off, and add brand aliases (alternate names, abbreviations, or domain variations people might use when asking AI about you).
If Your Site Can't Be Reached
Some sites block all automated crawlers. If that happens, GeoContextAI won't guess — you'll get empty fields and an option to either paste your company description manually or fill in the details by hand. Onboarding is never blocked.
Step 2: Review Your Market Profile
While you were reviewing your brand details, GeoContextAI was already working in the background on market discovery. When you move to step 2, you'll see:
Competitors
GeoContextAI uses AI web search to identify your real competitors — not just companies in the same category, but the brands that actually show up when buyers ask AI for recommendations in your space.
You'll see competitor chips you can:
- Keep — these are the brands you want to track alongside yours
- Remove — not actually competing with you
- Add — know a competitor the AI missed? Add them manually
You can track up to 5 competitors on the free plan, more on paid plans.
Buyer Search Prompts
This is the core of what GeoContextAI monitors. The platform generates buyer-intent prompts across three funnel stages:
| Stage | What It Covers | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | Prompts buyers ask before they know any brand name | "What's the best tool for tracking AI brand mentions?" |
| Research | Prompts where buyers are comparing specific solutions | "Compare GeoContextAI vs Otterly vs RankScale" |
| Decision | Prompts where buyers are close to choosing | "Is GeoContextAI worth it for a marketing agency?" |
GeoContextAI generates 2–3 prompts per stage — enough to get a meaningful signal without burning through your credits. You can edit any prompt, delete ones that aren't relevant, or add your own.
Why funnel stages matter: A brand might be well-known at the discovery stage ("best GEO tools") but completely absent at the decision stage ("should I buy X?"). The funnel breakdown shows you exactly where AI drops your brand.
Step 3: Choose Platforms and Launch
The final step is your launch summary. You'll see:
- Your brand details
- Your competitors
- Your prompts
- Your platform selection
Platform Selection
GeoContextAI can monitor multiple AI platforms simultaneously. On the free plan you get one platform. Paid plans unlock more:
- ChatGPT (GPT-4o)
- ChatGPT GPT-5
- Perplexity
- Claude Sonnet
- Gemini Flash
- Gemini Pro
- DeepSeek
- Google AI Overview
Each platform counts as one credit per prompt. So if you have 6 prompts across 3 platforms, that's 18 credits per monitoring run.
Hit Launch
When you launch, GeoContextAI:
- Saves your company, competitors, and prompts
- Sends every prompt to every selected AI platform
- Stores the raw AI responses
- Extracts brand mentions, sentiment, positioning, and factual claims
- Verifies claims against your known facts to catch hallucinations
- Calculates your AI Visibility Score, Share of Voice, and funnel-stage metrics
This takes a few minutes. You'll be redirected to your dashboard, where results populate as they come in.
What You'll See on Your Dashboard
Once your first monitoring run completes, your dashboard shows:
AI Visibility Score
A single number (0–100) that captures how visible your brand is across AI platforms. It's weighted by funnel stage — decision-stage visibility counts more than discovery-stage because that's where buyers convert.Verdict Banner
A plain-English summary of your results: "Mentioned in 3 of 9 AI answers" or "Not yet appearing in AI recommendations." No jargon — just a clear diagnosis.Share of Voice
How often your brand appears compared to competitors. If AI mentions your brand in 2 out of 10 responses where any brand is mentioned, your Share of Voice is 20%.Funnel Stage Breakdown
Presence, sentiment, and positioning metrics broken down by Discovery, Research, and Decision stages. This tells you where in the buyer journey AI is helping or hurting you.Gap Prompts
The prompts where AI didn't mention you — your biggest opportunities. These are ranked by how many competitors appeared and how many platforms gave answers without you.Pricing
GeoContextAI has a straightforward credit-based pricing model:
| Plan | Price | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 brand, 1 platform, limited runs — enough to see what AI says about you |
| Starter | $19.99/mo | More platforms, more runs, competitive tracking |
| Agency | $199/mo | Multiple brands, all platforms, client reporting, priority support |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom integrations, API access, dedicated support |
One credit = one prompt sent to one platform. Transparent, predictable, no surprises.
What Comes After Onboarding
Your first monitoring run gives you a baseline. From here:
- Review your Actions queue — GeoContextAI identifies the prompts where you're missing or losing, and generates specific content recommendations to fix each gap
- Check the Knowledge Review — If AI made claims about your brand that can't be verified against your website, they'll appear here for you to confirm or flag as hallucinations
- Set up scheduled monitoring — Run daily, weekly, or monthly to track how your visibility changes over time
- Generate fix content — For each gap, GeoContextAI can draft targeted content grounded in your verified brand facts
- Publish and verify — After you publish fix content, GeoContextAI tracks whether AI starts citing it in future responses
